Lionel Messi’s Barcelona chapter ends after Mendes warns of ‘complete nightmare’

Sources claim that Lionel Messi, currently at Inter Miami, would never return to Barcelona “under any circumstances,” describing his chapter at the club as definitively “closed.”

Honestly, it makes sense after such an iconic career there, both Messi and the club may prefer to leave the past untouched.

Any talk of a return could create unnecessary pressure and unrealistic expectations for both him and the team, so this finality might actually be for the best.

When he finally hangs up his boots, the legendary Argentina player will be regarded as one of the greatest, if not the greatest, football players in history.

Messi has won every award in the sport, including eight Ballon d’Ors. He has scored 791 goals in 970 club games and 114 goals in 195 outings for Argentina.

Messi won ten La Liga championships, seven Copa del Reys, seven Spanish Super Cups, four Champions Leagues, three UEFA Super Cups, and three FIFA Club World Cups while playing for Barcelona.

In an effort to perform well in North America before the 2026 World Cup, there have been suggestions that Messi may return to Europe or another highly competitive league.

Prior to Argentina’s match against Spain during the international break, Messi paid an unplanned visit to the Camp Nou, which is currently undergoing renovations, on Sunday.

Messi posted on social media after the visit, saying, “Last night I returned to a place I miss with all my heart.” “A place where I was incredibly happy, where you all made me feel like the happiest person alive a thousand times over.”

“I hope I can come back someday, and not just to bid farewell as a player, which I was never able to do.”

Before remarks that he misses Barcelona surfaced earlier this week, the social media post generated a great deal of excitement about a possible comeback.

“I’m really looking forward to going back there,” Messi said to Sport. Barcelona is sorely missed.

The kids, my wife, and I are always discussing Barcelona and the possibility of relocating there. We desire that because we have everything there, including our house.

Alfredo Martinez, a Spanish journalist, has refuted the reports, stating that Messi is unlikely to play for Barcelona again, however he might make a comeback in an off-field capacity.

“Leo Messi, under no circumstances is considering a return to Barcelona as a football player,” Martinez tweeted on X. The chapter has ended.

In Miami, he has a long-term contract. Season by season, he moves on. If he comes back, it will be primarily for the sports department’s offices. He is a part of Barcelona’s history, and hopefully he will return in the future.

In response to a question regarding Messi’s homecoming to the Camp Nou, Barcelona president Joan Laporta stated on Wednesday that Messi’s return was “not realistic.”

Laporta told Catalunya Radio, “His departure wasn’t as we wanted,” in response to a question concerning Messi’s potential comeback.

However, it is inappropriate for me to encourage unrealistic rumours out of the deepest respect for Messi and the entire team.

According to other Spanish reports, Barcelona has been advised not to re-sign Messi by super agency Jorge Mendes, who has close ties to several major teams.

“The reality is that the idea of Messi and Lamine Yamal sharing the pitch sounds like a Barcelona fan’s fantasy,” the report stated. However, it is a possibility.

That said, whether the fit will live up to fans’ lofty expectations is still uncertain. If it doesn’t work, what initially seems like a dream move could quickly turn into a nightmare.

This is why Jorge Mendes has already sent a strong warning to Joan Laporta, urging him to think carefully about Messi’s potential return.

Although I think it’s wise advice, even the greatest players need the right environment, and rushing into a reunion without considering all factors could backfire spectacularly.
