Johnny blasts ‘false stories’ and defends Bellingham and Rashford over media ‘lies’

Today, deception is a powerful currency. Sometimes it’s done to create a false narrative, and other times it’s just careless, erroneous thinking based on presumptions rather than real facts.

Nowadays, it’s so common that almost every aspect of our existence is a work of fiction.

We are offered depictions of individuals such as Marcus Rashford or Jude Bellingham that are presented to us as fact, even though the author is unsure of their veracity.

I have never stated that before, much less “banged on” about it. In actuality, I wrote a book criticising it and those who view everything through the erroneous prism of nostalgia, yet this person was ascribed to me in a characteristically careless and flip manner.

It was stated as truth rather than opinion. It’s absurd to think that I have a positive memory of the times I fought outside the grounds, especially because I’ve stated the exact opposite numerous times.

In spite of evidence to the contrary, it is an example of people making things up in their own minds and then taking them for granted. Facts and truth are irrelevant; assumptions have taken their place.

Never once have I used the stupid phrase “a man’s game” in anything other than a derogatory manner. It’s a pitiful idea that completely contradicts everything I believe, both literally and figuratively.

Some free speech advocates frequently label me a socialist or a wet-arsed liberal who is some kind of modern-day snowflake.

They would say it, but they despise free speech if you say something that they disagree with.

However, this lie will then be internalised by others, creating a completely inaccurate impression of me in this instance.

What if you experienced that? You have a reputation for saying “black is white,” and others think you’re not wise for saying that. You say “black is black,” but they say “it’s white.”

I don’t care if you call me names you can think of, or if you disagree with my thoughts as much as you like.

I’m not upset because I’m probably talking garbage, but I do dislike being misrepresented by such thoughtless remarks because it affects my creative life.

As a football writer who has been nominated twice for both football and sports book of the year, it goes without saying that one unwise blaring has no bearing on the big picture.

However, I frequently come across remarks that are similar and all originate from the same illusions. In addition, I write best-selling books, and my readers are horrified to read.

If you’ve read any, you’ll know that I put a lot of effort and passion into them. Readers are thus taken aback by reading something so different from what they are used to.

I have to clarify that it’s merely a person’s idea or hallucination that has been misrepresented in quotes as fact.

I even tried to address it by including it into one story. What if you had to do that? Sales may be impacted, however I’m not sure. And I frequently have to say these things in order to appear non-hypocritical.

And this is me sitting far away from the madding crowd, staring out over the Firth of Clyde in the west of Scotland, a bit crippled.

Someone has pointed out to me that remarks like this on a well-known website that harm my reputation are libel, and I should sue them for damages.

Of course I wouldn’t, as I’m not a very valuable twat or self-important enough. Online lies about people are common and, to some degree, predictable.

Ten minutes after writing it, the author may have forgotten, but I will still have to live with the consequences of his sloppy word choice for a long time to come.

I don’t want to create the appearance that I’m intentionally searching for instances of deception because, to be honest, I rarely read any of it and, when I do, I simply disregard it, whether it’s good or bad or irrelevant.

And if a reader who knows me well hadn’t brought this to my attention, I would have missed it too.

Simply said, I felt it brought attention to a problem that must have considerably more profound effects on far more important, well-known, and modest people than myself.

And it serves as a lesson to all of us to consider what we claim to be facts rather than just opinions when we don’t know them as well as this person does me (though maybe they would if they had fairly read any of the 24 books and hundreds of pieces and taken the time to learn them).

We are undoubtedly encouraged to believe we know individuals by modern media. Just think of how much terrible it must be for Jude Bellingham or Marcus Rashford.

Being forced to live your life surrounded by assumptions, criticisms, and downright lies from dishonourable journalists, people’s remarks, and websites, whether they are good or bad.

Although they only see you via these fake narratives, people believe they know you and have a notion of your personality and opinions about everything, which may be completely untrue.

Such lies have a significant impact on a large number of people, not just the individual in question, as demonstrated by the fact that I have a very watchful set of readers who take them extremely seriously on my behalf.

Once more, having to constantly put up with this viewpoint being presented as fact must be annoying for the friends and family of truly famous people.

It must be difficult to maintain your identity when you are publicly present in so many different, frequently conflicting circumstances.

I probably won’t read your response, good or bad, but someone else will. Please keep that in mind when you casually claim something to be true that you don’t know is real and that you would know isn’t if you had paid attention.
