Lionel Messi has finally put an end to all the talk about his future, committing to a fresh three-year deal with Inter Miami.

The announcement sparked a wave of excitement across MLS and none more so than for co-owner David Beckham, who shared a heartfelt message celebrating the Argentine icon.

Despite being 38 in June, Messi continues to deliver at a level that defies age, netting 39 goals and supplying 19 assists in just 44 games, driving the Herons comfortably into the playoffs.

It’s a massive decision that locks in the biggest name MLS has ever seen, and it’s 100% sure that the whole league just breathed a sigh of relief seeing Messi commit his future.”

Good News For Inter Miami As Messi Continue His Career With Them

With the signing of a new three-year contract that will keep him in Florida until he becomes forty-one, Messi has formally committed to Inter Miami.

Although there had been some talk of an extension since April, it seemed to have calmed down over the summer.

With the deal’s ratification this week, months of speculating about Messi’s future were finally put to rest, and supporters collectively exhaled in satisfaction that the greatest of all time will continue to dazzle American audiences for the foreseeable future.

In an emotional interview with NBC Nightly News, Messi talked candidly about his choice to remain in one place.

“Honestly, I felt really good during the year,” Messi stated. “To be honest, the decision was simple, and my family and I are happy living in Miami.

I’ve always stated that I’ll base my decision to keep playing and being a member of this club on how I feel on a daily basis, both physically and mentally.”

The owner of the team also feel good about this and he can’t help than to express his feelings about it

As he wrote a heartfelt Instagram homage to the man who transformed the club’s athletic and business dynamics, Beckham was hardly able to conceal his pride.

“Bringing the best players to Miami was our vision when we embarked on this journey,” Beckham stated. “We brought the greatest player to ever play the game to our city in 2023.

I’m thrilled that he is still as dedicated as ever now and still wants to play for our team and wear the Miami pink.

I feel extremely fortunate as an owner to have a player that shares his passion for the game, has contributed significantly to the game in our nation, and can serve as an inspiration to the upcoming generation of young talent.

“Thank you, Leo. I look forward to the future.” Messi has made a commitment to his club future, but his international plans are still up in the air.

The attacker acknowledged earlier this year, while on duty with Argentina, that he hasn’t made up his mind about playing in the 2026 World Cup, which will be held in the United States alongside Mexico and Canada.

I make an effort every day to feel well and, most importantly, to be truthful with myself. When I’m feeling good, I like it. I don’t like it when I don’t, though, and if that’s the case, I’d prefer not to be there.

Therefore, we’ll see,” he stated at the time. “I still haven’t decided on anything about the World Cup. After I conclude the season match by match, I’ll have preseason and check in six months. I’m hoping to have a successful 2026 preseason, end this MLS season strong, and then decide.”

Stats Don’t lie: Messi Performance Tells Alot

Messi has made 83 appearances for Inter Miami since joining from Paris Saint-Germain in 2023, tallying 73 goals and dishing out 37 assists.

He guided Miami to its first Leagues Cup championship last season, and in 2024, they won the storied Supporters’ Shield.

In addition to winning the MLS Golden Boot, the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner is still in the race to win the league’s MVP award for the second consecutive year, something no player has ever done in the competition’s short history. Messi’s revolutionary influence has actually reverberated off the pitch.

According to Sportico and Forbes, Inter Miami’s market worth has more than doubled to $1.2 billion since his debut.

Attendances have increased dramatically throughout the league; in 2025, MLS drew 11.2 million fans, the second-highest number in history.

Home clubs experience an average increase in attendance of 14,000 when Messi plays away, which is a startling 63% increase over their typical attendance.

The Los Angeles Lakers and Golden State Warriors are the only American sports clubs with a larger Instagram following than Inter Miami, which grew from one million to almost eighteen million.

His pink No. 10 shirt is still adidas’ best-selling jersey worldwide and has led the MLS sales rankings for three straight seasons.

With 19 victories and 8 draws in 34 games, Inter Miami finished third in the Eastern Conference. Messi scored a hat-trick as they crushed Nashville 5–2 in their last regular-season game.

Their playoff campaign got off to a stunning start with a 3-1 victory over the same opponents in the first leg of the series, which featured two goals from Messi.

The Argentine legend is anticipated to take centre stage once more when Miami travels to Nashville for the second game on November 1.
