Rodri chooses between Man City and Real Madrid as Florentino Perez restarts his interest

Reports suggest that Manchester City standout Rodri has made a decision regarding his future after discovering that Real Madrid is pursuing him again. 

Rodri enjoyed an amazing 2023-24 season, assisting Man City in securing the Premier League title for the fourth consecutive time, along with triumphs in the Club World Cup and UEFA Super Cup. The key central midfielder also assisted City in reaching the FA Cup final and the Champions League quarter-finals. 

Rodri also succeeded on the international stage, playing a vital role in Spain's triumph at Euro 2024, defeating England in the final. 

Rodri has been absent since September due to an ACL tear sustained during the 2-2 match against Arsenal, yet he still claimed the Ballon d’Or over Brazilian star Vinicius Junior. 

The 28-year-old has been closely associated with Real Madrid lately. 

As reported by Spanish outlet Cadena SER, Madrid president Florentino Perez has designated Rodri as the ideal replacement for Toni Kroos. 

Since Kroos retired at the end of last season, Madrid have struggled to maintain their dominance, being eliminated from the Champions League by Arsenal and trailing Barcelona in the battle for the Spanish title. 

Perez is eager to resolve the problem this summer and is prepared to make a significant attempt to lure Rodri away from City. 

German outlet Sport Bild reports that the elite star is very content at the Etihad and has no intention of seeking a transfer to Madrid in the near future. 

City aimed to secure Rodri with a new contract just before his injury upon discovering Madrid’s significant interest. 


The discussions about renewal were delayed due to Rodri's recovery, but they're anticipated to resume as soon as he is back on the field. 

Rodri poised to remain at Man City 

A new extended agreement is expected to conclude Madrid's search for good. Rodri is seeking to recover his fitness before the season concludes, as he hopes to participate in this summer’s Club World Cup. 

In November, it was reported that the Spanish giants had departed from Rodri. Although they have re-energized their attempts to acquire him, it appears disappointment awaits them. 

Arsenal received a lift when it was initially reported on Sunday that Madrid was ready to resume their pursuit of Rodri, as they are both interested in Martin Zubimendi. 

However, there may now be a significant transfer conflict between Arsenal and Madrid for the Real Sociedad talent. 

Madrid highly appreciates City striker Erling Haaland, as Perez envisions pairing him with Vinicius and Kylian Mbappe in the attack. 

Nonetheless, Haaland committed to City for the long term in January by signing an impressive nine-and-a-half-year deal.
