Two Manchester United transfer choices revealed by merciless Nottingham Forest after baffling £90m decisions

Manchester United’s decision to sell Anthony Elanga for £15m while rating Alejandro Garnacho at £70m illustrates the kind of errors that define their transfer missteps.  Manchester United are terrible at signings. That is no surprise. Their terrible history of post-Ferguson acquisitions is painfully familiar. However, they are arguably inferior in every facet of player sales, and insufficient emphasis is placed on how that disastrous failure has been more persistently harmful than subpar recruitment to their prospects for a significant rebuild.  They have never earned over £100m in a single season from player sales (four Premier League teams achieved this in just one season). They are the sole Premier League club whose highest sale happened prior to 2011. They still consider David Beckham's transfer to Real Madrid in 2003 as their fourth-biggest sale ever, and two players ahead of him – Angel Di Maria and Romelu Lukaku – were sold at a loss compared to their initial signing fe...

Chelsea's strategy for the £18.5m acquisition unveiled

• Chelsea have allegedly secured an agreement for Dario Essugo.

• In contrast to Geovany Quenda, this Sporting prodigy is anticipated to start playing right away.

• The Blues are getting ready to loan one of their midfielders to accommodate Essugo.

Chelsea have allegedly finalized an agreement for Sporting CP midfielder Dario Essugo, achieving a swift double acquisition of Portuguese talent.

The upcoming confirmation of Essugo's transfer follows just a day after various sources reported Chelsea's signing of Geovany Quenda from that same club. The Blues successfully convinced the 17-year-old prodigy to accept their proposal and reject Manchester United's interest primarily because they agreed to allow Quenda to spend the next season on loan at Sporting. Various plans exist for Essugo.

The aggressive 20-year-old is presently on loan at Las Palmas but is anticipated to be immediately integrated into Chelsea's first team when his £18.5m transfer is completed this summer, according to Fabrizio Romano. In order to accommodate Essugo, Enzo Maresca plans to send Mathis Amougou - another promising young midfielder who just joined in February - on loan to Chelsea's affiliate club Strasbourg in the French elite league.

Although FIFA has eliminated the amortisation loophole that Chelsea's owners took advantage of during their year at the club by offering long-term contracts to distribute transfer costs annually, Essugo has secured an extended tenure at Stamford Bridge. The Portugal under-21 international is anticipated to sign a contract that will last until June 2032 and includes a one-year extension option.

Essugo has been characterized as the backup to Moises Caicedo. Chelsea's beloved Ecuadorian player is a constant fixture in Maresca's midfield, providing unmatched defensive strength behind a not-so-diligent attack. Nevertheless, engaging in numerous tackles inherently puts Caicedo at risk of receiving yellow cards, potentially resulting in suspensions.

As Maresca explained earlier this month: "He plays in midfield." You are stuck in traffic. At times, you need to commit a few fouls. "It's typical."

Should Caicedo be unavailable or if Maresca decides to rest his one-man wrecking ball, Essugo could potentially join the team. The defensive midfielder has committed some disciplinary offenses himself, yet he averages more combined tackles and interceptions than any other regular midfielder in La Liga this season.
