Two Manchester United transfer choices revealed by merciless Nottingham Forest after baffling £90m decisions

Manchester United’s decision to sell Anthony Elanga for £15m while rating Alejandro Garnacho at £70m illustrates the kind of errors that define their transfer missteps.  Manchester United are terrible at signings. That is no surprise. Their terrible history of post-Ferguson acquisitions is painfully familiar. However, they are arguably inferior in every facet of player sales, and insufficient emphasis is placed on how that disastrous failure has been more persistently harmful than subpar recruitment to their prospects for a significant rebuild.  They have never earned over £100m in a single season from player sales (four Premier League teams achieved this in just one season). They are the sole Premier League club whose highest sale happened prior to 2011. They still consider David Beckham's transfer to Real Madrid in 2003 as their fourth-biggest sale ever, and two players ahead of him – Angel Di Maria and Romelu Lukaku – were sold at a loss compared to their initial signing fe...

Chelsea gain significant injury advantage ahead of Southampton match

• Wesley Fofana is back in the Chelsea lineup for Tuesday's match.

• French center-back absent since December due to hamstring injury.

• The defender openly challenged Enzo Maresca's assertions about a season-ending problem.

Chelsea have received a boost with the inclusion of centre-back Wesley Fofana in Tuesday's squad heading to face Southampton.

Fofana sustained a hamstring injury in December, leading to a strange exchange with manager Enzo Maresca. The Frenchman first stated that his problem was not grave, but Maresca contended that it might be a season-ending injury.

A social media post disclosed Fofana's claim that Maresca's remarks were "not accurate" as he projected a return to play by mid-February. The manager subsequently verified that Fofana had challenged the recommendations made by the club's medical team.

In the end, it seems that Fofana's belief was justified since Fabrice Hawkins was the initial one to announce his forthcoming comeback.

It is still uncertain how significant a part Fofana will have in the match against Southampton, but Chelsea officials will be extremely hesitant to take any chances with the 24-year-old, whose difficult injury past has sparked differing views online.

Fofana played a crucial role in Chelsea's achievements during the season's first half. His collaboration with Levi Colwill, though not without flaws, demonstrated significant potential, and the Blues ranked third in the Premier League standings when he was injured.

Interestingly, the initial match Fofana was absent for in December was a 5-1 win against Southampton, where goals from Axel Disasi, who has since left on loan, Christopher Nkunku, Noni Madueke, Cole Palmer, and Jadon Sancho led to an easy victory.
