Two Manchester United transfer choices revealed by merciless Nottingham Forest after baffling £90m decisions

Manchester United’s decision to sell Anthony Elanga for £15m while rating Alejandro Garnacho at £70m illustrates the kind of errors that define their transfer missteps.  Manchester United are terrible at signings. That is no surprise. Their terrible history of post-Ferguson acquisitions is painfully familiar. However, they are arguably inferior in every facet of player sales, and insufficient emphasis is placed on how that disastrous failure has been more persistently harmful than subpar recruitment to their prospects for a significant rebuild.  They have never earned over £100m in a single season from player sales (four Premier League teams achieved this in just one season). They are the sole Premier League club whose highest sale happened prior to 2011. They still consider David Beckham's transfer to Real Madrid in 2003 as their fourth-biggest sale ever, and two players ahead of him – Angel Di Maria and Romelu Lukaku – were sold at a loss compared to their initial signing fe...

Chelsea close to finalizing €25m summer transfer deal.

• Chelsea is said to be nearing a deal for Sporting CP midfielder Dario Essugo.

• According to Portuguese, report states agreement is already finalized

• 19-year-old making a mark while on loan at Las Palmas

Reports indicate that Chelsea are close to signing Dario Essugo, midfielder for Sporting CP.

Essugo, 19, has shone on loan in La Liga with Las Palmas this season and had his name brought up as a potential target for Chelsea late in the transfer window when the Blues began pursuing a midfielder.

O Jogo reported that Chelsea had finalized an agreement for Essugo just hours prior to the transfer deadline, but then the situation went silent. Chelsea subsequently announced the signing of another 19-year-old, Mathis Amougou from Saint-Etienne, for €15m (£12.5m).

That seemed to conclude the connections to Essugo; however, following the window's closure, A BOLA reiterated the assertions that Chelsea had finalized the signing of the Sporting midfielder. It is emphasized that, although the agreement won't be finalized until the end of the season, the Blues have already made a payment of €25m (£20.9m) to secure his transfer for the summer.

Relevo would later clarify that Chelsea is "in communication" regarding Essugo, who has been associated with West Ham United and Borussia Dortmund in other reports.

Chelsea's strategy for Amougou is thought to involve a loan to Strasbourg next season, potentially clearing room for Essugo to enter the team, while Brazil international Andrey Santos is anticipated to play a major part under Enzo Maresca next year after impressing during his own temporary stint with the French club.
