According to sources, Kobbie Mainoo is no longer considered untouchable at Manchester United, and Chelsea is reportedly planning to exploit a standstill in contract negotiations.
Chelsea has reportedly been "leading the race" for the teenage midfield player, but Mainoo is still bound by the contract he signed back in February 2023, which is worth about £20,000 per week. He has also made little headway in talks for a big new contract.
The Daily Mail claims that Mainoo is seeking a new weekly wage that is more in line with £200,000. However, United wants to cut their pay, and Mainoo thinks he may find a better deal elsewhere because of their reluctance. The Manchester Evening News even claims that the 19-year-old is dissatisfied with United's first contract offer.
Although United is unwilling to provide a pay since they do not intend to lose either player, Mainoo and fellow youngster Alejandro Garnacho, who was signed from Atletico Madrid for just £420,000 in 2021, may be available for the appropriate price.
For the right price, Mainoo and another young player Alejandro Garnacho—who was acquired from Atletico Madrid in 2021 for a mere £420,000—may be available, but United is unwilling to offer a price because they do not intend to lose either player.
Rasmus Hojlund is added by The Guardian to the list of athletes who are no longer regarded as untouchable. Sir Jim Ratcliffe, the new co-owner, will consider any player who makes a good offer because he thinks that player sales are essential to running a successful team.
According to reports, even last summer's acquisitions—Leny Yoro, Noussair Mazraoui, Matthijs de Ligt, Manuel Ugarte, and Joshua Zirkzee—are available for the appropriate price. This suggests that United is more interested in avoiding PSR punishments than in really selling their valuable players.
