Two Manchester United transfer choices revealed by merciless Nottingham Forest after baffling £90m decisions

Manchester United’s decision to sell Anthony Elanga for £15m while rating Alejandro Garnacho at £70m illustrates the kind of errors that define their transfer missteps.  Manchester United are terrible at signings. That is no surprise. Their terrible history of post-Ferguson acquisitions is painfully familiar. However, they are arguably inferior in every facet of player sales, and insufficient emphasis is placed on how that disastrous failure has been more persistently harmful than subpar recruitment to their prospects for a significant rebuild.  They have never earned over £100m in a single season from player sales (four Premier League teams achieved this in just one season). They are the sole Premier League club whose highest sale happened prior to 2011. They still consider David Beckham's transfer to Real Madrid in 2003 as their fourth-biggest sale ever, and two players ahead of him – Angel Di Maria and Romelu Lukaku – were sold at a loss compared to their initial signing fe...

Tottenham "makes the decision to fire Postecoglou." amid Premier League troubles, as trophy dreams are "crucial."

According to reports, Tottenham will not fire Ange Postecoglou while they are still in the Carabao Cup, and his future will be determined by their performance against Liverpool in the semi-final.

After a fantastic first half under the former Celtic manager, Spurs have struggled in 2024.

They have won 15, drawn 6, and lost 16 of their 36 games, placing them eighth in the Premier League standings for the current calendar year. That is more losses than Everton, Crystal Palace, Nottingham Forest, and West Ham combined.

In 2024, they have scored 71 goals, which only five teams have surpassed, but they have also let up the fifth-most goals in the top flight (58). That encapsulates Spurs' performance under Postecoglou; it is utterly disorganized and heavily focused on attacking, which does create for some incredible spectacles.

However, many Spurs supporters are dissatisfied with the team's disorganized play, and Postecoglou is under pressure to strengthen the defense.

Some people feel sorry for the Australian, who has lost a number of important defenders this season, including Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero, his two best center backs.

It is far from ideal to start Radu Dragusin and Ben Davies in the center of defense, and since the latter is also hurt, Postecoglou has been obliged to use juvenile midfielder Archie Gray there instead. Nevertheless, many believe Postecoglou is on borrowed time, and results, performances, and consistency need to improve.

Spurs' victory over Manchester United in the quarterfinals has kept them in the Carabao Cup, which is Big Ange's top priority and something the supporters are clamoring for.

Earlier this year, Postecoglou reminded supporters that he frequently wins trophies in his second season at clubs, but that the best team in Europe is in his way. That's not ideal, is it? He's probably going to be fired, isn't he?

A "crucial" match between Tottenham and Liverpool will determine Postecoglou's destiny.

Although he "maintains the backing of the board, the League Cup semi is emerging as key to his prospects," according to a Daily Mail story, Postecoglou's future in north London may be determined by Spurs' Carabao Cup semi-final matchup with Liverpool.

In fact, the club's management has "made a decision on Postecoglou," and the Australian "remains safe for now, though there is an acknowledgment that results need to enhance." Ange views winning a trophy as a significant accomplishment, and the cup semifinal and their participation in the Europa League are "crucial."

According to the article, it may be lethal to lose in the Carabao and keep faltering in the Premier League.

Spurs have games against Hoffenheim and IF Elfsborg before the league phase ends, and they presently hold a playoff berth in the Europa League.

The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium will host the Carabao Cup semifinals on January 8 and Anfield on February 6.

As a manager, Postecoglou has won two Scottish Premierships, two Scottish League Cups, one Scottish Cup with Celtic, two A-League titles with Brisbane Roar, a J-League championship with Yokohama Marinos in Japan, seven Australian international youth titles, three awards as South Melbourne's manager, and the 2015 AFC Asian Cup with Australia.
